I just visited the UMD research nuclear reactor. It wasn't running at the time of my visit so there was no blue cherenkov radation in the water but still very cool. They also hade a source of cobalt 60, which is highly radioactive and emitts lots of gammas. I don't remember how many curies they had coming off the Co but it is enough that it requires the highest university radation license in the USA. Hours inside the Co-60 chamber can simulate years in space. They said they put a cockroach in the chamber and it survived for 2 hours.
